I gathered some of the local fall fun happening around JoCo into one easy guide so you can spend less time searching and more time actually enjoying the season.

Whether your perfect fall Saturday means pumpkins and hayrides, a festival downtown, something spooky after dark, or an easy outing with the kids, there’s something happening close to home.

 

Here are a few places to add to your 2026 Johnston County Fall Bucket List.

Pick a Pumpkin & Spend the Day on the Farm

Few things say fall quite like a pumpkin patch, corn maze and hayride.

Sonlight Farms | Kenly

Sonlight Farms is a great one to put on the family calendar this October.

On Saturdays from October 3 through October 31, families can enjoy a corn maze, children’s maze, hayrides, pumpkins, farm animals, slides, playground areas, fall games and more.

This is the kind of place where you can make an entire fall afternoon out of one stop.

 

Smith’s Nursery & Strawberry Farm

Another local favorite for a simple fall outing is Smith’s Nursery and Strawberry Farm.

Fall visitors can stop by for pumpkin picking and enjoy the farm atmosphere while checking out the farm stand and other seasonal experiences.

Grab a pumpkin, take a few pictures and enjoy a slower afternoon outside.

Sometimes those are the fall days we remember most.

 

Find a Local Fall Festival

If your family loves food, vendors, music and that hometown festival feeling, October gives you plenty of opportunities to get out and explore.

JoCo Community Market & Pumpkin Fest

Mark October 17 on your calendar for the JoCo Community Market & Pumpkin Fest at Ronnie’s Berry Farm in Angier.

Expect plenty of pumpkin-inspired fun, including a pumpkin pie contest, along with the community market atmosphere.

It could be a fun option when you want something festive without traveling far.

 

Clayton Harvest Festival

One of the bigger fall traditions in the area returns to Downtown Clayton from October 22–25.

The Clayton Harvest Festival brings several days of midway rides, vendors, food, entertainment and activities downtown.

With tens of thousands of people traditionally attending, this is one of those Johnston County fall weekends you may want to plan ahead for.

 

Looking for Something Spooky?

For some people, fall doesn’t officially begin until there’s at least one haunted attraction on the calendar.

Clayton Fear Farm

Clayton Fear Farm has multiple nights planned throughout October for anyone looking for a much scarier version of fall fun.

Attractions have included experiences such as the Haunted Hayride, Slaughterhouse and Farmhouse.

This one is definitely better suited to the brave members of your group!

 

Fall Fun for Younger Kids

Not every Halloween activity needs to be scary.

Two local events give families with younger children an opportunity to dress up, collect treats and enjoy Halloween close to home.

 

Clayton Main Street Trick-or-Treat

Head to Downtown Clayton on October 30 for Main Street Trick-or-Treat.

It’s an easy way to enjoy costumes and Halloween fun while visiting the downtown community.

 

Selma Spooktacular

Then on Halloween night, October 31, Selma Spooktacular gives families another local way to celebrate.

If you have little ones who have been counting down the days until they can finally wear their costumes, this might be one to put on your list.

 

Stretch Fall Just a Little Longer

Not ready for pumpkin season to disappear as soon as Halloween ends?

Neither am I.

Bentonville Battlefield traditionally hosts a fall festival featuring historic demonstrations, wagon rides, children’s games, crafts, live music, food trucks and more.

One important note for 2026: Johnston County event information currently shows conflicting November dates for the Bentonville Battlefield Fall Festival. Before making plans, check the latest official event information for the confirmed date.

 

Create Your Own JoCo Fall Day

You don’t necessarily need a big event to enjoy fall around Johnston County.

Pick up coffee from a local shop. Visit a pumpkin patch. Take the kids to a festival. Find a porch or patio for dinner. Drive a few back roads and enjoy the changing season.

Sometimes the best local days are the simple ones.

And one of the things I love about living in Johnston County is that you can find so many different experiences without going very far from home.
